“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
-Margaret Mead
At Louisiana Progress, we work with grassroots partners to identify real problems, develop effective solutions to those problems, and advocate to turn those solutions into systemic change, with a focus on issues that lift up working people and low-income communities, including:
Decriminalizing poverty
Protecting & expanding labor rights
Reforming public-sector fines & fees
Increasing government transparency
Improving public transit for riders & workers
Welcome to the Good Ideas Party
We aren’t in the Democratic Party or the Republican Party. We’re in the Good Ideas Party. We don’t represent special interests or wealthy interests. We fight for the interests of people who don’t have the resources to hire advocates and lobbyists.
Using that approach, we have become recognized as an important leader in Louisiana politics by:
Leading or co-leading campaigns to pass more than 25 state & local policies
Mentoring & training more than 25 Louisiana college students through our College Fellows program
Partnering with the Louisiana AFL-CIO & its affiliates to lead their GOTV work & their campaign to successfully defeat the largest policy attack on unions that’s ever been launched in one state in one legislative session
Building deep relationships with community members & leaders, advocates & government officials
Helping our grassroots partners grow their political & strategic capacity
Shaping the narrative on important issues through extensive traditional & social media work, as well as our publications & website
Educating & engaging the public on redistricting, & advocating for fair, competitive maps in state & local government
